How to Use Live Microphone Transcription
Live transcription turns your microphone into a real-time captioning tool: words appear on screen as you (or whoever's speaking) talk, with no file to upload afterward.
Starting a live session
- Open Live in the sidebar.
- Choose your input device from the microphone/audio device list — any connected mic or headset works.
- Pick a model — smaller models (tiny/base) keep up better in real time; larger models add slight latency but more accuracy.
- Click Start. Text appears as you speak, and you can pause, resume or stop at any point.
- When you stop, the session is saved as a regular transcript in your library — editable and exportable like any other.
Good use cases
- Live-captioning a meeting so you don't need to take notes by hand
- Dictating notes, drafts or outlines directly into text
- Capturing a lecture or interview in real time as a backup to recording
This is a Pro feature
Live microphone transcription (live_mic) is included on paid plans. On the free plan, you can still record and transcribe afterward by using a separate recording app and then dropping the resulting file into Transcribe → File upload.
