How to Improve Transcription Accuracy

If a transcript has more mistakes than expected, a few things usually explain why — and most are easy to fix.

1. Model size

The tiny and base models trade accuracy for speed. If accuracy matters more than turnaround time for a given recording, switch to small, medium, or large — see choosing the right model.

2. Audio quality

Whisper is good, but it's still working from the audio you give it. Background noise, overlapping speakers, heavy accents, or low recording volume all reduce accuracy — this is true of every transcription engine, not specific to ScribeForge. Where possible, use a decent microphone and record in a quiet space.

3. Noise reduction

Turn on Noise reduction in Settings → General to pre-process audio before transcription — this helps with recordings that have background hum, fan noise, or light static.

4. Names, jargon and product terms

Whisper has no way to know your company's product names or an unusual guest name unless you tell it. Add recurring terms to the custom dictionary so they're corrected automatically in every future transcript.

5. Multiple speakers talking over each other

Heavy cross-talk is hard for any transcription engine to untangle cleanly. Speaker diarization (Pro) helps attribute segments correctly, but the clearest results still come from recordings where people aren't talking over one another.
